Vision Loss in the United States

– 3 million people have decreased vision loss and mild or moderate risk of depression.

– 3.5 million over age 40 have severe vision loss and or blindness.

– 1.5 million veterans have vision threatening eye disease.

– 285,000 people have glaucoma. 5.7 million people experience visual loss.

– 1.2 million experience vision loss and diabetes. 3 million have decreased hearing.

– 350,000 have severe risk of depression. 900,000 have stroke and vision loss.

Today, the population of the United States is about 3.2 billion; 1 person out of 50 people experiences visual loss.
