A recent article in the New York Times (Feb 11, 2019)1 reports that artificial intelligence (AI) can be used to make a diagnosis in a pediatric population of 600,000 patients. The data involved 101.6 million data points derived from 1,362,559 patient visits from a pediatric hospital in Guangzhou China.2 Machine learning in this study associated common medical disorders with patient complaints and information gathered by the healthcare team of physicians, nurses, and technicians.
